Discover Newmarket has over 14 Tour Guides who have all been trained to deliver tours at a consistently high level whilst respecting the horses, riders, breeders and trainers in the town. At the same time, the management and administration staff work hard to ensure that your experience is always enjoyable and hassle-free, from first enquiry to post-tour feedback.
Megan Pollexfen - Manager
Having lived in Newmarket for 8 years, Megan is an adoring horsewoman who set out to follow a career path that matched her passion for horses. Megan has been dedicated to the racing industry for many years having worked in the pre-training of young Thoroughbreds, sales preparation and stud husbandry. Megan has always been around horses. In her sparetime Megan enjoys playing polo- which has seen her play Internationally in Argentina as well as England.
Megan is looking forward working closely with the Thoroughbred Breeding, Racing and Training Industy to promote Newmarket, the Home of Horseracing and all its fantastic history and heritage.
Char Collins - Tour Guide
Char was born and bred into racing and has ridden out for many trainers including Bruce Hobbs and Sir Henry Cecil. She grew too tall to be a jockey so turned her hand to Point to Pointing with her best result being a brave 2nd! Char was previously a guide for the National Stud for eight years and has a huge wealth of knowledge, having lived and breathed racing for all her life.
Ann Totman - Tour Guide
Ann used to work for John Warren, Willy Hastings-Bass and Banstead Manor Stud. She has a degree in modern languages speaking French, Italian and the basics of other European languages. Ann has been a tour guide at the National Stud for eight years and runs her own e-commerce business.
Malcolm Roper - Tour Guide
Malcolm was a National Hunt Amateur Jockey at the age of 23, and later in life went on to be a designer and builder of stables and other buildings for the racing industry in Newmarket. Malcolm has been a tour guide at the National Stud since 1995 and was also previously a tour guide for the National Horseracing Museum.
Angie Winter - Tour Guide
Angie worked for Juddmonte as PA to the general manager for eight years and regularly gives her time for charity work, particularly in Newmarket. She helped Discover Newmarket in the early phases as a Tour Co-Ordinator and has now joined the ranks as a Tour Guide.
Frankie McGhee - Tour Guide
Frankie spent her early life in show business, travelling the world, and then had a successful career in tourism and hospitality. She has been a qualified guide for over 10 years and is passionate about the history of Newmarket and how the 'Home of British Horseracing' developed.
Larry Bowden - Tour Guide
Larry has worked in racing since 1968, starting as a stable lad then going on to become an Apprentice Jockey on the flat. His achievements include a winner on the flat and 24 winners over jumps in both the UK and Italy. He worked for many years on thoroughbred stud farms. He now works for the National Horseracing Museum in the practical gallery and is also a Tour Guide.
Jane Evans - Tour Guide
Jane has worked in tourism for many years in London and worked at both Gatwick and Heathrow for TWA. She worked as the Stud Secretary at Fittocks Stud for seven years and then moved to the National Stud to be a guide in 1998. She has a particular passion for thoroughbred bloodlines.
Richard Dean - Tour Guide
Richard was a pilot for 28 years for BOAC, he also worked in the city for Barclays but has spent the last 15 years working as a guide for the National Stud. You may also see him on the racecourse as he works for the Tote as a betting operator on race days.
Chris Adam - Tour Guide
Chris was Born in Newmarket to a non-racing family but soon discovered racing and has never looked back. She married a vet/trainer/stud owner and has worked at the National Stud in her spare time for many years. Her main job is as a social worker in Suffolk.
Wendy Milbank - Tour Guide
Born in Cheshire Wendy's stepfather was a National Hunt trainer whose claim to fame was not only a Grand National winner but also forming four champion jockeys, including Dick Francis and Stan Mellor.
She was married to a trainer in France where rode out every day, and also worked for the French racing authorities and the French Bloodstock sales.
On her return to England she started a catering company and was based at the Jockey Club Rooms for 15 years. We organise many events for the racing fraternity.
Nigel Wright - Tour Guide
Nigel started his racing career riding for Fulke Walwyn at the age of 14. He rode a number of winners under rules over fences and on the flat as an amateur. He has served in the Military before working on Stud Farms in New Zealand and the US as well as managing Farms in the UK. He went on to train privately at Stetchworth Park Stud which included success with User Friendly and Environment. He is a member of the TBA Council and won the TBA Dominion Prize for services to Racing and Breeding.
Jane O'Shea - Tour Guide
Jane has worked in the Horseracing Industry, since 1978, primarily with Luca Cumani, then 28 1/2 years at William Haggas, until July 2015. She started as a stable lass, and worked through the ranks to become Head Person for nearly all her time with William. She is proud to say that she was in charge of multiple Group winners, winning the Derby being the pinnacle with Shaamit, in 1996.
I was thrilled to be asked to join the Discover Newmarket Team, and I look forward to sharing my knowledge of Newmarket and Horseracing as a Tour Guide.
Gaynor Foulkes-Taylor - Tour Guide
Welsh by birth and optician by profession, Gaynor rode before she could walk and is fiercely passionate about all things equine. She fell in love with Newmarket when she came to the races 24 years ago and has now lived here for four years.
She has many friends in the racing industry and has been racing around the world, including Australia, France, Dubai and Wales!
She is very interested in the history of Newmarket, especially the Jockey Club and the old stables of the town. Gaynor says she is proud to be in involved with Discover Newmarket as their newest recruit.
Richard Bowler - Tour Guide
In his early life Richard was a journalist in East Anglia before moving into public relations, working mainly in London.
He has lived in the Newmarket area for over 40 years and, with family connections to the world of horseracing, he has developed a keen interest in the bloodstock industry.
